How to edit a PDF
- Choose the PDF.
- Pick a tool: Cover, Text or Image.
- Click or drag on the page. Switch to Move to reposition or delete anything you added.
- Press "Save PDF" to download the edited copy.
Can the text already in the PDF be changed?
Not here. A PDF stores text as pieces placed at fixed positions with the font it was made with, so rewriting a line means having that font and re-flowing the whole paragraph; sites that promise it usually rebuild the page and move everything else in the process. This tool works the other way round: it adds on top of the page, so cover what you do not want and write your own text over it. The rest of the document is left exactly as it was.
Covering is not deleting
A white rectangle over a paragraph hides it from your eyes, not from the file: copy and paste, or any text extractor, still finds it. When what is underneath matters — a name, an account number, an address — use Redact PDF, which removes the text itself.
If the PDF is signed
Any edit breaks the signature, because a signature covers the exact bytes that were signed. The edited copy opens normally, but readers will report the signature as invalid. If you are not sure whether a file is signed, check it in Verify PDF Signature.
Is it private?
Yes. Everything runs inside your web browser, using your own device. Nothing is uploaded to any server, so your documents stay completely private. How does this work without uploading?
Frequently asked questions
Which font does the text use?
Helvetica, one of the fonts every PDF reader carries, so the file stays small and opens everywhere. Characters outside the Latin alphabet (Japanese, Greek, Cyrillic…) cannot be written with it; when that happens the tool tells you which ones it had to replace.
Can I add my signature?
Yes: save it as a PNG with a transparent background and add it as an image. If you would rather draw or type it on the document, Sign PDF is quicker.
Is the quality of the original kept?
Yes. Pages are not re-rendered or re-compressed: what you add is written into the existing page and everything else stays as it was.
